WELCOME TO THE CARNIVAL
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Families of the students in Room 224:
ALOHA! My name is Dennis Schamp, and I am very happy to have the opportunity to work with your child this year. Since this is the first week of the new school year I know you will have much to read and sign, so I will keep this as short as possible.
This is my 17th year teaching in San Diego, and my ninth at Lewis. I have taught at various schools in San Diego, worked with medically homebound students, and students who were confined to recovery rooms at Children’s Hospital. I have earned a full teaching credential, a Master’s Degree of Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, as well as a Bachelor’s in Business Management. As you can see, education is very important to me.
This year, I will be teaching two subjects: English Language Arts (genre studies & writing workshop) and Dramatic Arts, an elective. The 6th grade curriculum for both subjects is very interesting and will involve homework, class-work, group work, and projects. I will be working closely with our teaching team to ensure your child receives a quality education.
In closing, please remember this room is OUR room. A quality education cannot be achieved without parent involvement, and I encourage you to work with your child as often as possible. With that in mind, I want to introduce you to a word the Hawaiians use for “family.” The word, OHANA, which roughly translates as “you and yours are part of me and mine.” I welcome you to our Room 224 Ohana –
We’re in for a spectacular year!
